What's helped me

I was 345LBs eating family-sized roasts & drinking a case of Dew a day. Had to make serious changes, but I couldn't do it all at once.

Plus, my daughter is turning 13 this Saturday. We both need to know how to make healthier choices. We've started making 1 simple change a month. I went from drinking my beloved Pepsi & Mountain Dew to diet sodas with no sugar, calories, or caffeine. Now I'm drinking carbonated flavored water. Next month, month I'll start with noncarbonated flavored water. My daughter stopped drinking juice & soda and drinks water with flavor packets.

We have our "Meatless Mondays". We used to eat spaghetti. Now we eat it using spaghetti squash. We also have salad with almonds.

On "Taco Tuesdays", we stopped using ground beef & started using ground turkey. Now use half ground turkey, half fat free refried beans. Instead of shredded cheese and sour cream, we use cottage cheese.

We also have "Turkey Thursdays" and "Fishy Fridays".

On our "Sleep-over Saturdays", I enjoy my reward day (within reason). Chloe loves it when I make "McMommy's" (healthier version of fast food). I make oven fries, oven-fried chicken, homemade nuggets, turkey burgers, etc. My reward is steak. When I worked for a butcher, I learned a steak is just a slice of a roast. So I started buying lean roasts and making my own steaks.

Since Doc wants me to stay off my feet, I can't exercise. So, I have to focus on other ways to lose this weight.

Just take it slow, 1 day at a time.

got spiritual support

Just got an email from Rev Linda (from the church Chloe & I just started going to). She said when it comes to spiritual support, they have my back. Rev Linda also said she'll go to Iowa City when I have my surgery to pray for me. This is helping me feel better.

I'm scared

The more I think about going through surgery on August 6 and going back into the nursing home, the more scared I get. In the past 9.5 months, I've only been able to lose 30 pounds. If I could have exercised, it would have been more. Once again, I'm at a huge risk during this surgery. Plus, I didn't like how I was treated in the nursing home. Last time, I faked being better just to get home. I'm sure that had a huge impact on why I'm not healed. I can't come back with an in-home nurse or stay with my parents (mom's a nurse), because I am too heavy. If I don't do the surgery, I could lose use of my leg and may never walk again. I'm almost tempted to except that then to go back to that awful place.

Oh boy

Well, I lost 30 pounds...that's the good news. The bad news is, they're redoing my leg surgery on August 6. My femur isn't healing.

Tomorrow

Going to Ortho in Iowa City tomorrow to see if my surgery has to be redone. If so, I'll have to go back to the nursing home for recovery. I so do not want that. I'm. Asking everyone to please pray that I am healing.

!Lo hicimos!

I feel like singing Dora the Explorer's song "!Lo hicimos!". I met one of my goals today. Here is the video (in two parts).
Part 1:
Part 2:

I'm now queen of the hill. I'll take a moment while you all worship me in all my glory. Bow down, bow down. OK, that's enough.

Next goal... walk up down the second hill to my mail box.
